Chiropractic Care & Acupuncture

Holistic Pain Management Services

Research has shown that chiropractic care is effective in treating neck pain, headaches, and lower back pain, as well as non-spinal conditions like asthma and high blood pressure.

Originated in the United States, chiropractic medicine has been around since the late 1800s. Chiropractic is a hands-on therapy based on the theory that when one or more of the bones of your spine move out of position, they can create pressure on or irritate spinal nerves (subluxation).

Treatments usually involve adjusting the joints and bones in a person's spine by using pulling, twisting or pushing movements, as well as heat, electrical stimulation or ultrasound to help relax a person's muscles before the spinal adjustment.

Acupuncture

Traditionally a Chinese remedy for balance issues and chronic pain, acupuncture involves inserting small needles into various points in the body to stimulate nerve impulses. At San Luis Valley Health, acupuncture may be provided in conjunction with chiropractic procedures.

What Acupuncture Can Treat

Acupuncture can help with most chronic pain and other conditions, but is specifically good for:

  • Lower back, shoulder, and joint pain
  • Foot pain
  • Chronic headaches
  • Losing weight
  • Quitting smoking
  • Sinus pressure pain
  • Fertility problems
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

Dr. Aaron Polzin, DC is San Luis Valley Health’s chiropractor and only certified acupuncturist. Before administering acupuncture, Dr. Polzin conducts a thorough evaluation of his patients.

Acupuncture Side Effects

Acupuncture is a very safe method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and improve function. It is common with the first or second treatment to have a sensation of deep relaxation or mild disorientation. In these instances, it may be beneficial to have a friend or family member drive you home from treatment.

Chiropractic care and acupuncture treatments are offered at Monte Vista Community Clinic and Stuart Avenue Clinic. Call (719) 589-8122 for more information. You can fax this department at (719) 589-8112.
