Relay for Life is right around the corner! This year, the San Luis Valley Relay for Life will be held in Cole Park on Friday, July 13th. Like years past, get your friends and coworkers together and create a team. It's even easier this year... just hop online!  The SLV Relay has it's own website for you to sign up, donate, and stay up to date on changes and upcoming events.

Why Support Relay?

For the past 27 years, the American Cancer Society has raised over $4 billion dollars to make sure cancer patients get the care they need when they need it. That money supports a myriad of programs.  Here are just a few:

  1. Healthy lifestyles programs
  2. Childhood obesity intervention programs
  3. Tobacco cessation programs
  4. Regular cancer screenings for the uninsured
  5. CEO's Against Cancer

That $4 billion dollars also funds important cancer research, 60% of which comes from Relays.  The American Cancer Society is proud of its track record. Although more than 80% of research proposals go unfunded, 46 of the external researchers Relay for Life has funded have gone on to win Nobel Prizes for their breakthroughs in cancer treatment.  All of this ensures that when you, or your friends and family get cancer, you get the best possible care and treatment opportunities. Watch highlights from last year's SLV Relay for Life.

Because of the American Cancer Society's dedication to fighting cancer and saving lives, an estimated 900,000 deaths have been avoided.  Or as, ACS likes to say, an extra 900,000 birthdays celebrated every year.  Think of that as 350 birthdays celebrated every day because of cancer research. Show your commitment to improving the lives and outcomes of your loved ones affected by cancer.  Join a team today!
