The Great American Smokeout event held at the hospital and Stuart Ave. Clinic on Nov. 21 gave staff and the community an opportunity to learn more about our smoking cessation program from our new tobacco navigator Lisyuri Gallardo. Employees were invited to wear hats to work that day to signify putting a cap on tobacco.

“The event was really successful,” she reports.  “We were able to reach approximately 60 people and five actually set up a quit day.” She is planning similar events at the Monte Vista, La Jara and Antonito clinics with dates to be announced soon.

Support Makes it Easier it Quit

Lisyuri  emphasizes it is not too late for anyone anywhere to quit tobacco. “Research shows that you are twice as likely to succeed in your attempt to quit using tobacco if you participate in a tobacco cessation program that includes support,” she says.

In an effort to reach our community, San Luis Valley Health invites tobacco users to enroll in FREE support services with Lisyuri and be entered into drawings to win $25 gift cards. This is an opportunity to encourage people to make a long-term plan to quit for good. Participants will get access to a lot of great resources.
