KARISSA RODRIGUEZ

ULTRASOUND TECH

“As an Imaging Team, we are constantly learning from each other.”

At San Luis Valley Health, the Grow Your Own program has produced another shining star. Karissa Rodriguez is working as Ultrasound Tech for the past year and has proven herself a hard and dedicated worker, getting praise from co-workers, patients and her direct supervisor.

Janet McGinnis, Director for SLVH Imaging Services, commented, “We knew that Karissa had the right work ethic, compassion for patients, and willingness to learn. She impressed all of us on the imaging team with her good attitude and aptitude!”

Karissa is a Centauri High School graduate. She completed some prerequisites at Adams State and finished her Medical Administration certificate at Trinidad while completing her Associate in Applied Science and General Studies.

“I didn’t have any experience as an Ultrasound Tech but had been working at SLVH as a Rad Tech Assistant. I felt encouraged and supported, so I applied and completed my online training at Washburn University to become an Ultrasound Tech. It’s a win-win for someone like me who loves living in a small town and grew up in the SLV. I signed a commitment to work contract and SLVH paid for full tuition assistance.”

“This is a hard-to-fill position,” added Janet. “Karissa demonstrated dedication to the program as well as to the workload.”

Karissa said she completed the clinic work and online studies in one full year. The program was challenging and she learned a lot. She felt supported by the Imaging team to work around her school schedule.

“I like the culture at SLVH. It feels like family. The co-workers across the entire system are good people who care about their patients. As an imaging team, we are constantly consulting with and learning from each other. The program was intense, but I’m so glad I did it!”

When not at work, she enjoys hanging out with her family and friends.
