SLV Health Foundation Joins Forces with Safeway’s Nourishing Neighbors Program to Support Local Families

SLV Health Foundation is excited to announce its collaboration with Safeway’s Nourishing Neighbors program, which has provided support to our community during this holiday season.

The staff at Safeway were already familiar with the impactful work and dedicated employees of SLV Health, prompting an invitation for their Foundation to apply to the Nourishing Neighbors program. This initiative is designed to ensure everyone has access to nourishing food every day—a mission that aligns closely with the values at SLV Health.

In November, SLV Health Foundation was generously awarded 106 gift cards from the Alamosa Safeway, totaling $5,300. To their surprise and immense gratitude, Safeway provided an additional $5,300 in December, bringing their total contribution to more than $10,000. Additionally, Safeway has committed to providing any remaining funds in January, further extending their support.

These gift cards have been distributed to patients identified by the discharge planners and care coordinators along with nurses and providers who saw a need. Many SLVH team members "adopt" a family this time of year who are identified by local non-profits' Adelante, Kids' Place, and an SLVH committee. These families will benefit from this generous program with additional Safeway cards.

Recipients of the gift cards have expressed profound gratitude. One recipient shared, “I was actually able to buy Thanksgiving dinner for my family.” Another recipient, dealing with a car breakdown and financial struggles, expressed relief in being able to make ends meet.

“This program has allowed us to bring comfort and joy to many families in our community during the holiday season,” said Kelly Gurule, Director of the SLVH Foundation. “We are incredibly thankful for Safeway’s generosity and commitment to supporting our mission.”
