SLV Health Honored During Annual Safety Net Clinic Week

Alamosa, CO – August 16, 2024 – The Colorado Rural Health Center (CRHC) recently traveled to Alamosa to host a special luncheon in honor of Colorado’s rural safety net clinics, marking the Annual Safety Net Clinic Week (SNCW). This event highlighted the critical work performed by rural health providers and showcased their impact on local communities.

The CRHC chose to celebrate the occasion at San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center, recognizing the dedication of its staff including a reading of a governor’s proclamation of the passage of the Senate Bill 168.

A key moment of the event was the testimonial delivered by Becky Daniels, Special Projects Manager, who advocated for the approval of Remote Patient Monitoring for Medicaid reimbursement before the Senate Health & Human Services Committee. Her efforts were pivotal in advancing this important healthcare initiative.

Konnie Martin, CEO of San Luis Valley Health, expressed gratitude and pride in being part of the safety net system, stating, “We are thankful to have a safety net system and very proud to be part of the safety net and taking care of our community.”

State representative Matthew Martinez echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the positive changes brought about by the political process: “This bill is a reflection of putting the valley’s needs above everything.”

Becky Daniels shared her personal experience, noting, “This is the biggest and best thing I’ve done with my career in my 11 years of healthcare. It gives me a way to help our patients in a way they have never been helped before.”

Konnie Martin concluded, “It is an honor to have had the voice and to have had the team behind this important initiative.”

The luncheon underscored the significant contributions of rural health clinics and the collective efforts to enhance healthcare accessibility and quality in underserved areas.
