Standing in Solidarity
SLV Health
On November 17, 2022, Del Mar Carpet One of Alamosa announced on their Facebook page their intent to stand with one of their own, Josh Cantu, and raise money for pancreatic cancer in memory of his mother, Diana E. Cantu, who lost her battle with the disease in September.
During the month of November, folks from all walks of life stopped by Del Mar Carpet One, to see their purple showroom, write their name on a purple balloon, and donate. The effort raised over $2,400, with Del Mar Carpet One owners Larry and Tony Lujan rounding off the donation to an even $3,000 with a company donation.
The Cantu family (James, husband to Diana, and their four children, Brandon, Erica, Josh, and Krystle) decided collectively that the money should stay within their local community and reached out to the San Luis Valley Health Foundation.
Kelly Gurule, SLVH’s Foundation Director, received the donation in December of 2022 and was able to thank the family personally. “We appreciate the Cantu family and are inspired by their strength and ability to turn such a tragedy into something positive for our patients.”
