Orthopedics Puts a Smile on Patient's Face

Earlier this month, 13-year old Brendan Baker received possibly one of the worst birthday presents ever: a broken arm. Having to undergo surgery on a special day such as this is the last thing anyone would want to do.
Knowing that this was the case, Dr. Steve Kitchen, an Orthopedic Surgeon at San Luis Valley Health, along with his team, went above and beyond the normal call of duty to ensure that Baker’s day was not entirely ruined. The team brought in a birthday cake for Baker and sang him “Happy Birthday.”
“Aside from providing excellent care, we wanted to make sure that Brendan still was able to enjoy the day,” said Dr. Kitchen.
This simple gesture put a big smile on Baker’s face.
“We were impressed and satisfied with the care that we received, and this gesture just made the experience that much better,” said Staci Kreps, Brendan’s mom. “This is something he will always remember.”
