Quilt Care Packages Arrive
The Quilting Guild of Alamosa has started a program in tandem with the oncology department to donate a care package to patients.
Members of the guild have had family members who had cancer so they wanted to give back to the community. The guild will be making about six 50 by 60 inch quilts a month that are a variety of colors for all types of cancer.
“When they’re doing their infusions or other treatments they get cold,” said Kelly Gurule, San Luis Valley Health Foundation Director. “So the quilts are going in gift bags with other items like chap stick, sunscreen and water bottles. Whenever patients come they can easily bring the items they need to help them in this difficult time.”
The program hopes to expand in the future to include other products from local companies.
