Hettinger’s Generosity Blazes Trail for Foundation’s Legacy Program
“Adequate healthcare facilities are vital to any community, and San Luis Valley Health does an excellent job in providing those services to the community.”
Those were the words of Beverly and Dale Hettinger when asked why it was important to them to include the San Luis Valley Health Foundation as a recipient in their estate.
“The needs of the Foundation will continue to change,” said Beverly. “The money the Foundation receives from our estate will help with the wonderful projects the Foundation takes on, as well as their current and upcoming needs.”
The couple first begin to learn about the SLV Health Foundation through Beverly’s quilt-making for the annual Stephanie L. Miner walk and became more familiar about the planned giving process through Director Kelly Gurule.
The Hettinger’s desire to give back to SLV Health and their community comes as no surprise. Both have been pillars of the community for quite some time.
Dale grew up in the Sargent area and attended Adams State College. Immediately upon graduating, he started working at San Luis Valley Federal Bank. He would retire there 40 years later as President.
Today, Dale serves on the Adams State Foundation Board of Directors and is a retired member of the San Luis Valley Federal Bank Board.
Beverly moved to Alamosa in 1981 after earning an accounting degree at the University of South Dakota. It was a job as a Certified Public Accountant at Wall, Smith, and Bateman that brought her to the San Luis Valley. She also worked as an internal auditor for then Alamosa National Bank. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Creede Repertory Theatre.
Together, the Hettinger’s raised three children that are now grown, married, and blossoming in their own careers. They are avid outdoor enthusiasts, never missing a chance to bicycle, hike, or ski in Colorado’s magnificent wilderness.
“We have always been impressed with the services that San Luis Valley Health has been able to provide close to home,” stated Dale. “We would encourage others to consider leaving a part of their own estate to the San Luis Valley Health Foundation. It is a way to ensure that the community will have the excellent healthcare that we have come to enjoy well into the future.”
The generosity of the Hettinger’s is not limited to San Luis Valley Health, however. Adams State University, The Boys and Girls Club, and the University of South Dakota will all be benefactors of these wonderful people’s kindness.
